Classy Glassy ~ Sasha Grey Glass Butt Plug

Wow, it's good to be back!  Apologies for the unannounced holiday, my internet has been rather naughty and was not quite so keen to submit to my glowering as other bratty types.  But I am back, and have a rather luverly item to talk about: the Doc Johnson Sasha Grey Glass Butt Plug in medium!

Swanky, no?  When Lovehoney first got this range in, I was dying to pick one up, but being the cash-strapped Babe that I am, I had to sit in lusty silence until I was lucky enough to have one wing its way to my doorstep.

Randy Reading #5: Carrie's Story

And we're back, after a rather crazy few weeks.  It has been a while since I wrote about an erotic book, and this is one I found really enjoyable.  From the intelligent-sexy people at Cleiss Press, Carrie's Story is a modern take on the classic Story of O written by Molly Weatherfield.  She writes herself about how she struggled to harmonise her love of the de Sade style pornography she'd enjoyed in her youth with the Sex Wars era feminism developing around her.  I've seen it a lot myself in people new to the fetish scene, women especially, feeling guilty for a presumed betrayal of their gender by letting a man control them, and while I find it quite easy to resolve such inner conflict thanks to way too much time spent reading philosophical texts dealing with the master and slave dynamic - in a non-sexual context, but it frequently applies - it's something that does rear its head often, and I'm glad to have been able to read something dealing with this in such a positive light, as well as providing a believable modern portrayal of the 25-7 lifestyle.

For The Love of Spanking

Before I return to regularly scheduled reviewing, I tried my hand at some more prose-y writing and entered the Spanking.co.uk competition with a wee piece focused on what I love about spanking.  Now, I'm under no illusion that I'll win, but it was a lot of fun mulling over what exactly I felt and thought about during a scene, and trying to translate that into words. You can see my piece here, and vote for it or any of the others over here.

Only downside is that ever since I've been lusting after a decent session, and The Boy is far away and swamped in work!  Boo-fucking-urns.  Teasing myself into a lather, better get some appreciation for that!

So, whether you vote for mine or one of the others, do head on over there and check out those entries.  Voting ends on Sunday, so be sure to check back and see if your favourite won.

Lubetastic! ~ Liquid Silk

I have a crazy exam coming up in college, so I'm afraid my reviewing has taken a back seat to quickies in a big ol' pile of books.  And, while that image is intriguing in itself, a stressed and rather frazzled BB is not so fun.  Anyway, as I've managed to be rather slacky of late, I didn't want to let a week go by without throwing something out there.  So, quick and clean, much like the lube itself [cue drumroll] we have Liquid Silk.

Sexy Shinies! ~ NippleCharms Nipple Embracers

I'm a klutz.  I've always fancied body piercing, but given my skill at breaking myself without any sharp implements in range, I'd wind up being that person who gets a piercing ripped out.  So, my lust for standard body jewelry denied, I was intrigued when I spotted a picture on FetLife a few years ago of someone who had no-pierce shields that were every bit as pretty.  But, foiled again, I could only find them at horrific prices, or sold by people who thought that shipping from the US to the UK should cost three times as much as the product did.  Curses and such!  Then, the lovely TruePleasures hosted a competition to win a pair of Claddagh-style embracers, but had to be restricted to US only.  However, she'd included some links to the NippleCharms site, and after having a browse around, I spotted that their prices were reasonable, and not only that, but so was their international shipping rates!  Bingo!

I managed to resist for...ooh, about three hours.  And then proceeded to torment the postie for the next week and a half, because not that I don't trust USPS, but their tracking is a bit hit and miss.  As in it still says it's in JFK.  Oh well!  They did actually arrive within the estimated time, and bonus of no customs to pay (I was lying awake at night worrying if that'd balls it up).
Pair, boxed.
Depending on the design you choose, they may come singularly or as a pair, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.  The heart-patterned crystal-set embracers I chose were solos, so I ordered two to make the set.  The packaging was fairly simple, just a plastic blister box with a card backing and the jewelry loose inside, but with a cute cream net storage pouch and a card included in the envelope.  Despite appearing so delicate, and being fragile enough that there's a warning on the box backing about stretching them, the pieces aren't so fragile as to be at risk from being loose within the plastic box, especially as they were well cushioned in the bubble-wrap of the envelope.

Latest Goodies What I'm Liking

I'm a big fan of the pretty Icicles range of glass dildos, and this is one I'm desperate to get myself, especially when SexToys have it for a mind-blowingly stupid price.  Fingers crossed it's still at this insanely silly price when I get some cash in later in the week.  Seriously, a third of the usual price for such a stunning piece of pretty, I'll be kicking myself if I let this get past.

Meanwhile, Lovehoney have the Minna Ola, which I recently reviewed, for sale with a free pleasure-enhancing gel.  While I may not have fallen in love with it, I'll happily agree that it's a quality toy and a stupid amount of fun to play with.

And while we're on the subject of free stuff, there's just over three days left to enter Karen Blue's giveaway for Tantus' Anaconda Dildo.

Awright, that's about all the swank I have to share for today, I'm off back to bed to nurse my lurgy.

Alo, Ola! ~ Minna Ola Review

Ever had that moment where you want a pattern to speed up or slow down, get harder or be a little more gentle, so you cycle it through a bit and find that nope! next setting is too little/much?  And, frustrated, you dither between the two closest until you settle on the least 'wrong' and try to suppress that urge to yell at the toy manufacturer for not being psychic enough to anticipate this exact level of need?  Only me then?  Clearly not, since that's exactly the problem the Minna Ola seeks to address!  Now, aside from my rather unreasonably high expectations of toys at times, it appealed to me as a gadget geek precisely because of the utterly unique feature that the whole shebang is centred around: user-controlled patterns and speeds.  Literally programming in your own pattern, or just 'free-handing' and letting your touch dictate the pace of things.  Pretty nifty!  However, that's a lot of hype to live up to, and when you get right down to it, the entire performance is reliant on that sole feature living up to expectations.  That's a tough gamble at one-two-oh a pop
                                  .

Screw you guys, I'm gettin' busy with a boy!

My boy's got some holiday time, so I've been too busy having fun with him to work on reviews and junkitude.  Next week, cross my heart, I'll have the Minna Ola review ready to go!

Meantime, giggle at one of my favs, the "my guy's such a geek, when he scratches my back he doodles the symbol for pi" piccie, and try to forgive my slackitude; it's all in the name of good, sexy fun.

Their Leaf competition is also drawing to a close, with but a single day left until it ends.  Give it a gander, and perhaps you'll even get out of buying a gift when you win one of these gorgeous green gizmos!  But I hope not, 'cause I want it.

Housekeeping! Time to spring clean the blog.

Having spent the entire day working on other peoples' websites (yes, I know it's shocking given the slack-arse way this has been looked after, but I do that), I finally decided enough was enough, and had a twiddle about with templates and junk.

It's still quite basic, and in desperate need of a header - the other one neither fit the colour scheme nor the width - but at least it's clean and doesn't want to make me vomit when I look at it on my weenie mobile screen.  Given I've already been distracted fiddling with barely visible borders and making the impossible decision between #EDEDEF and #EDEDED (there is a difference, I swear!) for long enough that I've burnt my dinner, I might have to leave the rest for another time.  In the meantime, any suggestions on how to suck less are always appreciated.

Back tomorrow with another review!

Valentine's Specials from Lovehoney!

Lovehoney are a personal favourite of mine, not only because of their insanely good deals, but they have amazing customer service.  And I'm not just saying that because they've been so generous with review products: I spend far more money there than I should as a plain old customer, and there's a reason for all that repeat business.  So, here's a few of the amazing deals on offer this lovin' season, and remember if you purchase anything through my affiliate links here, I get a little bit more money to splurge on more toys and books and sexy accouterments that I'll come back here and share the judgement with you, so it's win-win-win unto infinity!

Valentines Day Lingerie and Gifts

Remember, Lovehoney are more than happy to go that extra step towards making your love-fest as special as possible.  Take advantage of their gift wrapping service to turn your sexy Valentine's shopping into an exciting gift with unique Lovehoney gift boxes. For just £3.50 you can take the hassle out of gift-giving and kiss goodbye to sticky tape trauma! Great-looking and made from strong cardboard, they come in a variety of sizes and they're good enough to keep your toys in afterwards!  And with free UK delivery and 1 year no-quibble returns, you can feel safe in the knowledge that you won't break the bank, or wind up disappointed by a broken toy.

Randy Reading Re-scheduled

Given I'm reviewing books faster than I can read them, and I have way too much college work on the horizon to guarantee I'll keep to the bi-weekly schedule, I'm now returning to regular haphazard reviews, published once a week on a Friday. However, I've enjoyed sharing some works of erotic fiction - and hopefully encouraging a smattering of folk to try it themselves at least - and I definitely intend to keep that up. Therefore, I'm declaring the last Friday of every month to be the scheduled next installment of my Randy Reading focus. If anyone has any recommendations, I'm always open to suggestions, especially when it comes to word-porn.

Randy Reading #4: Teasing The Devil

My first review of an Xcite book, and the first in my Randy Reading focus to be a full-length novel, Teasing The Devil by Monica Bell is a rather clever little tale of supernatural horror that could still just be shadows and an easily-influenced imagination.

There is a hint of the wicked about Julian d'Alveda,
a darkness that fascinates pretty student Chloe Anthony.
Keen to learn more about his scandalous activities, she joins him
at Candle Street Hall in Norfolk, a house with a reputation darker still.
Once there, she quickly finds herself drawn
like a moth to a flame, first as his lover, then more deeply
as the full scope of his strange obsessions and desires become clear.

Randy Reading #3: Enchanted: Erotic Fairy Tales

After last week's short story double-up, I thought it was time to look at something of a gateway-book to the more lengthy novels.  This one I picked up a couple of years ago, back when I was still getting to grips with erotic literature myself, and I found it much more fulfilling than some of the shorter Black Lace collections, as well as being slightly more in tune with my own draw to the paranormal-slash-supernatural style of fiction.  Black Lace's Enchanted: Erotic Fairy Tales is a trilogy of not-so-short stories focusing on the concept of adult fairy tales.  Now, as I mentioned in Randy Reading #1, I find Black Lace stories to be a little too eager to find the happy ending and have every couple ride into the sunset (take that how you wish!).  That failing is probably exactly why I find these stories to work so well: that fairy tale mentality is exactly what's needed in a genuine fairy tale.

Be Careful What You Wish For.
Three writers from the best of Black Lace
show there's nothing
childish about fairy tales.

The three pieces, spanning 272 pages in all, are each long enough to explore their own tale, but not so long as to forbid getting distracted lest you lose the thread of the narrative.  There was overall enough plot and character development to prevent me getting testy about lazy writing as I'm prone to with the shorter BL stories, whilst still keeping things brief.

Randy Reading #2: Yes, Ma'am - Erotic Stories of Male Submission

Following on from my review of the newbie-friendly collection of short stories, Black Lace Quickies 6, I thought I'd explore a collection that I personally found more appealing: Yes, Ma'am - Erotic Tales of Male Submission.  I do enjoy short stories, not least because, once something whets my literary appetite, I find it impossible to do anything until I've devoured the book whole, and short stories allow me to live a normal life despite how good they are.  Why, just the other night I stayed up until 5am to finish a novel, when I then had to get up two hours later.  Not fun.  So, yes, short stories are a thumbs up as a format.  I do also like a bit of spice to my erotic fiction, preferably either a bit of kink or the supernatural (or both), depending on my mood.

But, not all short story collections have the same umph.  Yes, Ma'am is published by the impressively elegant Cleis Press, who, to me, stand out even just by their Twitter bio as a company who try to keep a bit of class in with the ass.

Cleis Press publishes provocative,
intelligent books in the areas of sexuality,
gay and lesbian studies, erotica, fiction,
gender studies, and human rights.

Sounds exactly like the kind of attitude I can get behind!  Intelligent and sexy is pretty much the best combo I can think of.  Add that to how well-received the counterpart to this anthology - Yes, Sir - Erotic Tales of Female Submission - I had rather high expectations of Yes, Ma'am.
"No" is not an option...

Randy Reading #1: Black Lace Quickies 6

"Inaugurated in July 1993, Black Lace has emerged as the leading imprint
of erotic fiction for women, selling over four million books worldwide.
It has without question been an enormous success,
and the success looks set to continue.
In publishing a series of attractive, strongly branded books aimed at women,
we have created a new genre."

Whether or not you agree with how big an impact Black Lace have had on the erotic fiction market, they certainly are a household name (depending on your household, clearly!).  Even though they've taken a back seat in the past year, with their publishing house, Virgin Books, making the decision to focus more on their non-fiction texts, the vast BL catalog means most, if not all, erotic literature stockists will still carry a decent selection.

The main selling point of Black Lace books is that they're 100% written by women, for women.  This probably links closely into why, in all the books I've read, the stories have to resolve with some form of fairytale ending.  I know that many women can write without resorting to such clichés, but I get the impression that Black Lace specifically seek those whose writing leans more towards the fluffy hetero-normative fantasy. Now, personally, while I can handle a happy ending with the best of them, I rail against one being shoehorned in against all logic simply to satisfy some publication guidelines.  Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed many BL books, and some I actually see as having some literary value.  But, overall, I've seen too many of their stories as designed purely for someone who is unsure as to what they like, and wants a story that cares more about delivering an evocative, yet mild-mannered, sex scene than about finding the next The Canterbury Tales.

The book I've chosen to be the first in this series of reviews is exactly that: it is lightweight and accessible, but relatively insubstantial.  As someone who is confident of what she does and does not enjoy in a piece of porny prose, and is a little of a literary snob, it didn't do all that much for me, but I can see that I am clearly not it's target audience, and since I know many people who might be out there in internet-land browsing around fit perfectly into that category - new to erotic literature, not willing to spend a lot on something they may not like - I thought it would be a good jumping-off point.  So, let us jump off and have a peek at Black Lace Quickies 6.

Welcome to Randy Reading Review Focus!

I love myself some erotic fiction.  I don't love all of it, and even the books I've re-read until the spine cracks merged together into one tattered fray of overuse, I've found myself distracted by some niggling little quirk.  Right now, I've just finished yet another book, and have two more sitting on my bedside table calling out to me.  As soon as I see an online retailer start a sale, I'm right into the erotic fiction section, seeing what gems I can winkle out to keep my imagination-fires well stoked.  But I'm relatively new to these kind of books, which is why I thought I should do something to convince others to take that first toe-dip into the rich world of erotic fiction.

Why must I be so poor?

People who've been following my links will know that a) I'm a bit of a fan of Lovehoney, and b) they do mental deals now and then, including a daily Deal of the Day.  Today, their DotD has blown me away: get the We-Vibe Tango for only £35 with free UK shipping and a no quibble 365 day returns policy.

I'm so tempted, despite my impoverished state!  But if anyone wanted to be a dear... *wiggley eyebrows of suggestiveness*

Ah, I kid (half!), I'm spoilt enough.  Seriously though, I rarely like the idea of plugging something I've not tried myself, but the Tango has had such positive reviews from people whose opinions I'd trust - including the one by Laveila on the product's own page - and is at such a crazy price for only 24 hours (well, 22.5 now), that I must urge anyone who has been lusting after this to go-go-go before it go-go-goes.  And it will.

Much love!

Study Time!

Given I have a few erotic books that I've half-written reviews for and never published here, and two-and-a-half sitting on my bedside unit awaiting some love, and with a metric assload of college assessments due in the next couple of weeks, I'm going to declare the next fortnight or so Randy Reading R-season!  Yeah, maybe I'll work on the name a bit.  Anyway!  Beginning next Tuesday 17th, I'll be publishing an erotic fiction review every Tuesday and Friday until I run out or get distracted by something too shiny to not post about.

I'll announce each as it goes live on Twitter, so if like me you're not so great on the checking in thing, follow along and I'll yell at you to go read.  Sexercise your brain!  Yeah, I'll work on the tagline, too...

Simple Elegance ~ Fun Factory's G4 Elegance

If there's one thing that makes me happy, it's pretty toys that come in colours other than pink. And if there's two things, it's pretty toys that come in colours other than pink and leave me a quivvering heap. And if there's three things, it's pretty toys that come in colours other than pink and leave me a quivvering heap, made by people who genuinely care about providing the best and most innovative products they can whilst also being as eco-conscious and health-conscious as possible. Drumroll please, here comes the G4 Elegance from Fun Factory, and me with a great, sloppy grin.

Beware of low-flying trampolines!

My internet access has been curtailed, since a rogue trampoline, aided by some pretty severe winds, decided to take a shortcut right through my phone cable. Unfortunately, here in the UK these lines are all owned by BT, meaning a) my supplier isn't allowed to touch them, and b) the people who are allowed to fix it tend to be slow at best and deathly allergic to sticking to appointments. Thus, I have been exiled from cyberland for almost a week, connected only via my phone, which has an auto-correct made of pure liquid evil, and a browser window that likes to sgcurry away at random. This in itself has been painful to type. In short, this sucks too much to post anything worthwhile. However, I had been in the process of finalising a couple of reviews, which are now being super-edited into oblivion, so there shall be some make up posting - not as fun as make up sex, but just as enthusiastic - upon my return! It remains to be seen whether my over-zealous revisions will make them better or worse.
